Glare
We are all familiar with the glare of oncoming car headlights, streetlights or a neighbors poorly aimed floodlight. OMNILUX distributes light with increased beam uniformity thereby decreasing the peak-to-average light intensity and reducing harmful glare. Reducing glare improves; comfort, productivity, safety and reduces accidents, complaints and liability.
Demonstrated below is a pattern generated using a common MR lamp. The beam uniformity and sharp cut-off allows for improved targeting, reduced glare and comfortable aesthetics. The highly uniformity allows for a lower peak-to-average intensity ratio decreasing the glare effect.
OMNILUX ’s Sharp-Cut-off decreases: Intrusion, Discomfort, Waste & Light pollution
Light pollution hurts more than just your eyes
The effects of Glare on accidents and shutting down the eye are well known and common to our experience. Less commonly known is the effects of light on our health, as featured on Channel 2 News (Denver KWGN) on February 21, 2008.
“Remember when you were a kid and you looked up at the night at the Milky Way? Now that's virtually impossible and it's all because of light pollution. Light pollution is caused by inefficient, glaring, annoyingly over bright or wrongly placed artificial lighting. "I think the public definitely is hearing the whole word of dark skies," said Nancy Clanton, a light design engineer with Clanton and Associates, "And it's changing our lives in ways we're just figuring out. Causing health problems in part by interrupting circadian rhythms, disrupting wildlife, and obscuring the night sky”. It falls into categories like "light trespass" from that neighbor's errant floodlight shining in your window to over illumination, like a car dealer or service station. Just driving through bright light at night can effectively blind you for several minutes. "
OMNILUX resonant optics sharpen cut-off and limiting undesired light from escaping the fixture.
OMNILUX Creates New Capability Increasing Safety
Current luminaires' attempt to place light on a target (i.e. productivity zone for pedestrians or vehicles) while attempting to block light above a certain angle know as the cut-off zone. This light which escapes missing the productivity zone into the cut-off zone is what we experience as glare, sky-glow and light intrusion.
OMNILUX creates new capability and safety in lighting by; improving the productivity and cut-off zones while enabling a controllable third illumination zone, we term the safety zone. OMNILUX technology can deliver a predetermined amount of the light (i.e. 10% or 20%) to a zone on one or both sides of the productivity zone for the purpose of safety, while maintaining full cut-off.
Mom can walk with confidence, the kids can safely play and be seen, with no intrusion into homes for comfort. Meanwhile everyone can see and enjoy the night’s starry sky.
